4. HAZARDS AND PROTECTION
This material decomposes to form U2O7 then to UO3 and oxygen.
Storage:
- Protect from physical damage.
- Store in a cool, dry place.
- Protect personnel from radiation emanation if present.
- Separate from other readily oxidable or combustible materials.
Handling:
- All chemicals should be considered hazardous.
- Avoid physical contact.
- Use appropriate and approved safety equipment.
- Untrained individuals should not handle this material or its container.
- Handling should occur in a chemical fume hood.
Protection: Wear protective gloves, clothing, and goggles.
Respirators: Wear a positive self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Small Spills and Leaks:

Exposure Effects
Ingestion and Inhalation: Stridor, dyspnea, upper airway injury, and pulmonary edema, especially following inhalation of vaporized caustics may occur.

- Apply artificial respiration if the patient is not breathing.
- If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen.

- Medical problems take priority over radiological concerns.
- Use first aid treatment according to the nature of the injury.
